Welcome to 402 (Gravesend) Squadron – Royal Air Force Air Cadets

402 (Gravesend) Squadron is an active and thriving unit of the Royal Air Force Air Cadets, proudly serving the Gravesham community.
We offer young people aged 12 (Year 8) to 20 the chance to develop skills, make friends, and experience unique opportunities in aviation, adventure, leadership, and community service.

Our cadets take part in a wide range of exciting activities — from flying and fieldcraft to Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expeditions and ceremonial parades. If you’re looking for fun, challenge, and achievement, this is the place to start your journey.

Visitors and prospective cadets are very welcome to attend an introductory evening — please contact us in advance so we can arrange a suitable time.


What We Do

As members of the RAF Air Cadets, our young people take part in a huge variety of activities throughout the year, including:

  • ✈️ Flying and Gliding – experience flight with RAF instructors.
  • 🧭 Adventure Training – hillwalking, climbing, and camping across the UK.
  • 🎯 Marksmanship and Fieldcraft – learning discipline, teamwork, and precision.
  • 🎓 STEM & Leadership Training – developing valuable life and career skills.
  • 🎖️ Duke of Edinburgh’s Award – from Bronze through to Gold.
  • 🌍 Community Engagement – supporting local events and the community

Every cadet has the chance to build confidence, gain qualifications, and have unforgettable experiences alongside their friends.

Adult Volunteers

We also welcome adult volunteers (aged 20+) who can help support training, events, administration, or welfare.
No prior military experience is required — just enthusiasm, reliability, and a willingness to make a difference to young people in our community.
Training and uniform are provided.
